Volkswagen EOS Roof fault

We were presented with a Volkswagen EOS with a convertible roof fault . The roof would operate but on the dash a warning light was illuminated for the incorrect operation of the roof . Checking the roof fault memory revealed general code for incorrect position. Careful assessment of the roof position sensors showed that the near side front latch was showing open when the roof was closed . The sensors consist of a hall sensor which is fixed and a magnet that moves past the hall sensor to change the voltage this is attached to the movable linkage. When we checked the sensor we found the wiring had corroded through simple fix or so we thought . A new sensor was fitted and soldered back into the wiring loom taken back to a position of good wiring. We rechecked the roof but the warning light was still on . I decided to move a magnet across the new sensor to see if in live data the values would change and sure enough it worked so why didn’t the magnet on the latch not pass by the sensor ? Marking the latch and closing the roof revealed that the latch wasn’t fully closing  on the near side. Inspecting the roof mechanism on the near side we found that the rear closing latch was missing preventing this side of the roof fully closing . The bad news was that the latch is part of the complete roof at a cost of £6,000 . The more cost effective solution was to have a latch manufactured once fitted the roof fully closed and the latch switch was triggered with no warning light.
