VAG 1.6 Common Rail EGR faults

We are seeing more and more EGR failures on the 1.6 CRD engines.

Common fault codes are :- p0403 , p046c and p0407.

There have been revisions of both the design of the EGR valve and also with the engine software.

We are able to not only replace the EGR but also update the engine control software to the latest version on line with our dealer VAG Odis diagnostics.

Like most diesel engine the EGR valve is working in a very hostile environment and there are certainly things that can help extend it’s life.

Good quality branded fuel will help to prevent soot and carbon build up , regular servicing with the correct engine oils and avoiding short journeys will all help.

This particular EGR is fitted at the back of the engine and requires quite a bit of strip down to gain access and the valve comes complete with the EGR cooler making it quite an expensive repair.
