Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI DPF issues resolved

We were presented with a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI from another garage with a DPF issue. The vehicle had recently had a replacement turbo hose and the garage despite their best efforts couldn’t clear the DPF fault code. The DPF had been removed and cleaned off the car a year ago but the DPF can block very quickly especially when there are boost leaks.

Our initial investigation revealed that the DPF was restricted with a high back pressure at idle and under load. An inlet smoke test revealed there was still a boost leak from a incorrectly fitted turbo hose  as well as a sensor out of tolerance. With the hose refitted correctly and the sensor replaced we carried out our three stage DPF clean the results were quite dramatic with strong evidence of the extent of the soot build up

After an extended road test monitoring the DPF values and system operation the DPF back pressure was rechecked and had reduced to near to zero at idle and part load  . Another successful clean with considerable savings on replacing the DPF or even removing it .
