These pictures are from an Audi A4 recovered in recently as a none start .Diagnostic investigation revealed no common rail fuel pressure, upon removing the inlet metering valve to the high pressure pump it was found to be breaking up with a high content of metal swarf. Unfortunately the repair process for this level of contamination is vast requiring starting at the fuel tank cleaning out the tank and low pressure lines and replacing anything that cannot be cleaned involving new in tank and under floor fuel pumps new in line filter, new high pressure pump along with cam belt and water pump as it is engine driven. Also required are new injectors , all new high pressure pipes and the fuel rail. This vehicle had only covered 50,000 miles so wear was unlikely. There is a manufacturers technical service bulletin citing the main causes as miss fueling with petrol or the use off low quality diesel. After component replacement and priming the system the vehicle started and ran perfectly . We always recommend using only the best quality branded fuels in both diesel and petrol vehicles along with regular comprehensive servicing using only the best oils.
