A common issue with this engine is an engine warning light on and faults stored for EGR valve . The cause for this is usually the plastic gears stripping their teeth. This could be attributed to the mechanical sticking of the EGR paddle valve mainly due to carbon build up or wear caused by constant use and the fact that the gears are plastic.You can often here the valve clocking when the engine is turned on or off indicating the teeth are skiping over each other Here is an example of a recent valve that had failed where you can see the wear on the plastic teeth . There are no repair parts available so a new manufacturers EGR valve is the best solution .
